On October 18, 2024, Canadian Stefan Daniel was crowned world champion in the PT5 category at the World Para Triathlon Championships, held in Torremolinos, Spain. This triumph marks his sixth world title, consolidating his status as one of the best Paralympic triathletes in the world.
A Triumphant Comeback
After facing a significant setback at the recent Paralympic Games, where he crashed during the cycling stage and finished in tenth place, Daniel showed admirable resilience. "I feel pretty good after a tough year," he said after the win. His final time was 59 minutes and 26 seconds, standing out in all three disciplines of the triathlon: swimming, cycling and running.

Dominance in Competition
Daniel not only showed his ability in the water in the event, where he recorded the fourth-fastest time, but was also the fastest in the 19.1-kilometre bike race. He maintained his lead with the second-fastest time in the final five kilometres of the race. “It took me a couple of laps on the bike to get ahead and then put in a good run to close it out,” he explained.
Future Prospects
Looking ahead, Daniel expressed his desire to take a well-deserved break before beginning his preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games. “Paralympic years are tough and my body is pretty exhausted now,” he added, reflecting the intensity of training and competing at an elite level.
This triumph not only highlights Daniel’s exceptional capabilities as an athlete, but also inspires many within and outside the sporting arena. His story is a testament to the human spirit and determination in the face of adversity.
